Product Description

There is a reason why Magneplanar speakers are “legendary” in high-end audio circles. Actually there are several reasons. For us, two of the most important reasons are the combination of remarkable musicality and unsurpassed value. The Magnepan 3.7i improves on the already superbly musical and involving MG 3.7’s. Magneplanar offers an affordable upgrade for existing MG 3.7 owners. We invite you to hear the complete Magneplanar lineup at its best, including the awesome MG 20.7’s at Overture.

After a 12 year run, the venerable 3.6 steps aside for the new 3.7

The first question on everyone’s mind– “How is the 3.7 different?”

It is easier to start with what is the same. The frame and cosmetics are the same, with one important difference—the additional option of aluminum trim. The Magnepan 3.7i is a 3-way design, like the 3.6, but, it is a full-range ribbon design, like the highly acclaimed 1.7. We are calling it “trickle-up” technology. The concepts that worked so well in the 1.7 were incorporated in the 3.7. The specifications of the 3.7 are nearly the same as the 3.6, with a minor increase in efficiency.

Harry Pearson, the founder of The Absolute Sound magazine has been reviewing Maggies since he began the magazine in the 1970’s. Here is Harry’s review of the 3.7s–

The introduction of the 3.7 during CES 2011 was very similar to the introduction of the 1.7 during CES 2010. In their show coverage, www.theaudiobeat.com summed up the reaction of many who heard the 3.7 at the Audio Research and Magnepan rooms– “In terms of high-end audio in early 2011, we don’t know of a more important and impressive debut than that of the 3.7.”

Editorial on 3.7s and Magnepan’s CES demonstration begins in second column of link below. Gary Reber states–

“These are without question the best performance/value in loudspeakers that I have experienced. American-made throughout, these high-resolution, full-range ribbon, planar loudspeakers set a new benchmark for high-fidelity performance in loudspeaker design. No other demonstration at the CES came close to the sonic and spatial realism, and seamless response and time coherence delivered by the Magneplanars!”

At the risk of offending some advertisers, John Atkinson’s “think piece” is very insightful. Magnepan’s frugality and high value products are relevant to the needs of consumers in today’s fragile economy. John’s comments about Magnepan begin in paragraph 7.

Magnepan

With some of the best quality speakers on the market, Magnepan has utilized powerful technology to offer pure sound. Founded in 1969, every component designed for this speaker was produced in America. They still make all parts domestically to this day. Magnepan’s use of magnetic and electrostatic forces in their designs gives their speakers fantastic quality. These speakers not only produce audio from the front of the speaker but the back as well. This gives the listener an immersive surround-sound experience. Magenepan’s mission has always been to be different: by creating speakers that have technology fused into them like no other, giving listeners truly unique sound.

All stereo speakers have high-quality audio for both residential and commercial use. The Magneplanar is the model that started it all, showing off the benefits of the electrostatic loudspeakers. Since then, planar-magnetic or "quasi-ribbon" have been remarkably popular to consumers looking to improve their listening experience. Overall, Magnepan speakers take audio to another level from their best-selling 1.7i to the new LRS+.
