Product Description

When you first listen to the Acora Acoustics SRB loudspeaker, we humbly suggest you keep your eyes closed. The SRB delivers such a wide, tall and engaging soundstage, you may not believe the sound is coming from the diminutive SRB. You will hear nuance and depth to the music. We believe you will hear many things you simply hadn’t before. What you won’t hear is the enclosure.

Acora Acoustics loudspeakers are constructed using hand-crafted, specially treated, natural granite enclosures. The rigidity of granite far exceeds that of traditional particle board or wood enclosures. One of the benefits of this is as the SRB’s drivers move to push air / create sound, the enclosure isn’t absorbing this energy and dulling or smearing the sound. The Acora Acoustics SRB also utilizes world-class drivers and a hand-built crossover network, however the real secret to the Acora Sound, is that you only hear these, not the enclosure.

Listening to the Acora SRB monitors in a 16 x 25-foot handle the complex dynamics in Brand X’s Unorthodox Behaviour, you could easily be fooled into thinking you were listening to a floor standing speaker, even at a fairly high listening level. The sonic landscape created is big, deep, and immersive. A number of well-known tracks reveal minute details either fully or partially obscured with other speakers.

Many audiophiles cling to the notion, that small speakers sound small. In most cases that’s true. Think of some of your favorite small speakers. The team at Acora has pushed the boundaries of what’s possible with small speakers. The laws of science and physics can’t be broken, yet these speakers are an example of what can be achieved with solid engineering concepts applied and refined to the utmost. Precious few small speakers play with authority, but these must be at the top of that list. They carry a premium price as well, ($15,000 pair, matching stands $5,000/pair) yet in the context of other high performance, compact monitors, not out of line.

If I were to sum up my experience of the Acora SRB it would be that it has reminded me of the Joy of the Novice.

Can you remember the first time you had an emotional reaction to a hi-fi system? I can. The Police, Synchronicity II, Vandersteen Model 3’s, McCormack DNA 0.5. It’s a curious condition of the audiophile that we attribute this experience as much to the gear as we do to the music, but the truth is that hearing a recording portrayed with the bandwidth and dynamic scale of a great stereo system is a singular way to experience sound. In the beginning, everything is so impressive that we can’t help but be moved.

Unfortunately, it’s rare that we experience those moments of musical euphoria once we get engrossed in the hobby. As we hear more and become harder to impress, our initial excitement fades as well, trading in the high of musical experience for the abstract: what preamplifier will best match my phono stage and amp? Which speakers will best suit my room and recordings? What can I tweak in my digital setup to get it a little smoother in the high end?

At the core of these questions we may tell ourselves we’re seeking to recapture that high of the first great hi-fi listen that got us addicted, but is that really the truth? I sometimes suspect that the pursuit of details tickles the analytical muscles of the ear more than the emotional response.
